Aldersgate’s 2009 Church Wide Service Day

Received an Outstanding Response!

Over 450 special recyclable bags were returned to the church filled with food, clothing, toiletries, and linens between Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 25.  The donations will aid local food pantries, the local Hypothermia Shelter, and a Drop-In Center for the homeless.

Funds were given to the church to purchase the bags, which are printed with the Aldersgate church logo and Serving Christ by Serving Others tagline.

The bags were distributed on October 17 and 18 during worship services. Three lists with different types of needed items were supplied with the bags. Congregation members were asked to return the bags filled with items to the church lobby by October 25.

Over 450 bags were returned filled with canned goods, adult clothing and toiletries. About half were filled with adult clothes and toiletries, and the other half with canned goods.

The church’s All For One group sorted the food items on Sunday night in Wesley Hall. These will be boxed and delivered to local food banks and homeless shelters.

The clothing, linens, and toiletry items will be stored at the church until the opening of the hypothermia shelter at Rising Hope UM Mission Church later this winter.

Aldersgate had over 500 members engaged in this effort from the planning, set-up, execution, and delivery!
