Donation Baskets at Aldersgate

Until recently, Aldersgate had a tall bookshelf in the main entrance by the water fountain that was used to collect food, flags, glasses, soup labels, etc. for various organizations.

We have since replaced that with a big blue box for food donations in the main lobby, because those always flow beyond our little collection baskets.

The other baskets are now located in the Library, room 132 on the bookshelf on the left as you walk into the room. Each basket is labeled for the following donations:

Flag Retirement

Aldersgate's Boy Scout Troop 996 accepts United States flags from the congregation which are worn and ready for retirement according to established protocol.  Near Veteran's Day, our troop convenes an impressive Flag Retirement ceremony, including a speaker and scripted observance, open to the congregation and community.  Flags are collected during the year at a designated location within the church. Point of contact:  Ken Latta at 703-704-9043.

Used Eyeglasses

Used eyeglasses are collected by the Alexandria Rotary Club and then passed to the Lions Club in support of their worldwide efforts assisting visual health.  Your used eyeglasses are sorted and passed along to those who can use them for improved vision.  Point of contact:  Dick Lacquement at 703-360-5585.

Manor Care Project

The Manor Care Project supports the nursing and rehabilitation center on Collingwood Road.  Gift items such as little figurines, stuffed animals, small bottles of fragrance, picture frames, costume jewelry or other things with holiday motifs in cheerful colors are desired for a "store" where residents can buy gifts with "Manor Care money" they earn from participating in exercise sessions and other activities.  In addition, there are new projects to support!  These include a library, (foreign language books in Spanish and Korean are especially needed) and a Computer Café (a decent computer desk and computer that is in moderate shape).  Point of Contact:  Claire Cooper at 703-960-3620.

Food Labels

To support the Henry Forks Service Center, Aldersgate collects food labels.  The needed food labels range from Campbell's Chunky Soup to V8 Splash drink.  For an exact listing of needed labels, please refer to the Food Label basket in room 132 or download and print a copy of that list to keep in your kitchen!  All food labels must have the complete bar code with the picture of the boy and point value.  Point of Contact:  Marlene Carriker at 703-360-4095.
