Opportunities to Serve the Local Community
Hands-on service is one of the hallmarks of Aldersgate Church. partners with a number of local organizations to help feed the hungry and house the homeless.
Habitat for Humanity: The Aldersgate community is committed to helping build a whole house, and we will continue to help build it until it is completed. This is a fantastic way to invest long-term in our community. Learn more, or sign up for a Build Day, on our Habitat for Humanity page.
R.O.C.K.: Route One Community Kitchen provides meals for the hungry five days per week throughout the year. Aldersgate’s day is Friday. Volunteers purchase food, prepare the meal Friday mornings, and then deliver and serve lunch at the Elks Lodge on Richmond Highway. Phoenix Rising: On the second Friday of each month, Aldersgate delivers sack meals to the people sheltered in local motels. Volunteers are needed for shopping, sandwich preparation, delivery, and special projects. To volunteer, email Frida Hopper at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mondloch House: A New Hope Housing initiative, Mondloch House provides temporary shelter and services for homeless families and individuals. Aldersgate volunteers buy and deliver fresh fruits and vegetables to Mondloch House each week. The suggested cost is now about $35. Coordinators are also needed. Sunday Suppers: Help Feed the Hungry in downtown Washington, D.C. Aldersgate volunteers prepare and serve food and socialize with the poor and homeless monthly. Individuals, classes, and groups are welcome to participate. Children must be accompanied by an adult. To volunteer, please contact Julie Pfister at firstname.lastname@example.org. Hypothermia Project: During the winter months, volunteers are needed to prepare meals and to spend the night at the Route 1 temporary homeless shelter at the Rising Hope United Methodist Mission Church on Russell Road. Rising Hope: Rising Hope United Methodist Mission Church serves those living in poverty in the Richmond Highway area. Volunteers from Aldersgate assist in this work, sorting food, driving members to worship services, leading Bible studies, helping with after-school programs, assembling mass mailings, and working individually with constituents. Eleanor Kennedy Shelter: Six times a year Aldersgate volunteers purchase food for a week of lunches for the single adults living at this shelter. Shoppers are needed to make the purchases and deliver them to the shelter. To volunteer, please contact Karen Latta at email@example.com.
