Music at Aldersgate

Not only do we believe that music is a primary way we experience God, we think leading others musically is itself a way we grow in our faith.

If you or your child would like to participate in a musical group or choir, the congregation would love to have you.

Unique Opportunities to Be Part of Aldersgate’s Music Ministry

There are some special opportunities the fall to participate in Alersgate’s Music Ministry! We are hoping to include as many singers as possible in two musical events at the church. No long-term commitment or experience necessary.

Kickoff Sunday, September 11

To begin the fall season on September 11, we want to have a BIG CHOIR to join in the singing of the anthem, “The Potter’s Hand,” at all three Sunday morning services. We invite anyone and everyone to be a part of this–youth in fifth grade and up, members and nonmembers, past and present singers, friends, and families. You will need to attend only one of two rehearsals, which are scheduled for Saturday, August 27, 11:00 a.m.-Noon, and Wednesday, September 7, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Sing at one, two, or all three services. If you can be part of this special event or want more information, contact Ernest Johnson, ernest@aldersgate.net.

High, Lonesome Mass, October 16

On October 16 at 11:15 a.m., as part of Aldersgate’s Sixtieth Anniversary, the Aldersgate Choirs and the Journeys band will present “Come Away to the Skies: A High, Lonesome Bluegrass Mass.” The work is a set of folk-hymn arrangements originating in the mid-nineteenth century collections of the Sacred Harp and the Southern Harmony, organized around a significant liturgy of the church. We would like to include as many singers and musicians from the community as possible. If you are interested, or if you know someone who may be, please contact Ernest Johnson, ernest@aldersgate.net. The first rehearsal is scheduled for August 27 from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
