Aldersgate’s Next Associate Pastor
Meet Emily Moore-Diamond, Aldersgate’s Next Associate Pastor
On July 1, we will welcome our new associate pastor, Emily Moore-Diamond, to Aldersgate.
Emily is currently a chaplain at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg while continuing studies in Clinical Pastoral Education, focusing on grief, spiritual assessment, and faith development.
From 2013-2017, she was the pastor of Warsaw United Methodist Church in Warsaw, Virginia. She focused there on community immersion in relational and missional evangelism, growing the congregation.
From 2000-2013, Emily worked in two different capacities at River Road United Methodist Church in Richmond. From 2000-2010, she was Minister of Discipleship and Program Ministries and from 2010-2013, after attending Union Presbyterian Seminary, she was an associate pastor. She has also continued her education through Duke Divinity School, Wesley Theological Seminary, and the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Eastern Mennonite Seminary. She is a graduate of Bridgewater College.
“Our relationships with God and others matter,” Emily says about her theology. “For Christ, love of God and love of every person on the planet are the ‘two pegs’ on which all else in theology hangs. These pegs are the measure, the filter, the practice, and the goal, and they are visible in sacraments, in community involvement, and in our shared life as the body of Christ.”
“The world is hungry for belonging and for a faith that is relevant, real, meaningful, palpable, mysterious, and makes a tangible difference in the world.” She looks forward to being at Aldersgate and helping us encounter God in new ways.
She married her husband, Scott Diamond, in 2015. He is a senior advisor in the International Trade practice group at Thompson Hine, a business law firm in Washington. Scott and Emily live in Woodbridge with Scott’s son, David, who is completing his junior year at Woodbridge High School. They will continue to live in Woodbridge and the parsonage will be rented. Emily enjoys writing, running, walking/hiking, reading, and word games.
