Congratulations Graduates!

Congratulations to the graduates in our congregation. You have accomplished a lot, and your futures await.

High School

Sarah Atkinson, West Potomac High School, She will attend East Carolina University.

Emma Ekman, West Potomac High School. She will attend The Honors College at Washington State University.

Noah MacGibbin Hannam, Landon School. He will attend Middlebury College.

Luke F. Hohlt, St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School. He will attend Southern Methodist University.

Sienna Joy, West Potomac High School. She will attend Clark Honors College, University of Oregon.

Julianne Joyce, West Potomac High School. She will attend Virginia Tech in the fall.

Jeffrey Joyce, West Potomac High School. He will attend the University of Mary Washington in the fall.

Andrew Jurkowski, West Potomac High School. He is taking a Gap Year to travel.

Shannon O’Shaughnessy, Metropolitan Academy of the Arts. She will attend Elon University.

Jack Prater, West Potomac High School. He will attend the University of Virginia.

Garrett Smoot, Mount Verson High School. He will attend the United States Military Academy.

Lukas Thackery, Lake Braddock High School. He will attend West Virginia University to pursue a double major in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Lily Vita, West Potomac High School. She will attend Virginia Commonwealth University.

Caroline Yates, West Potomac High School. She will attend the College of William and Mary.


Higher Education

Jack Joyce graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Strategic Communications from their School of Media Journalism. He will work at Epic Systems, Inc., in Madison, Wisconsin.

Dan Murray graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in English. He was accepted to the Urban Teachers program and will be teaching in Baltimore while pursuing a master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University.

Katie Murray graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Systems Engineering. She has a job with Booz Allen Hamilton.

Kate Perry graduated with a B.S. in Marketing and a minor in Public Relations from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. In the fall she will be a Graduate Assistant and help coach the women’s soccer team at North Central College, Naperville, Illinois.

Brian Spitnale received a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the Ohio State University. He is currently employed by Kulinski Group Architects and will begin a Master’s program at Virginia Tech in the fall.

Clare Spitnale received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from James Madison University. She is employed by Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation.

Andrew Van Buren, Bachelor’s of Fine Arts magna cum laude in Computer Game Design, George Mason University.

Trevor Robert Woods, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy.


Scholarship Recipients for 2018-2019

The Endowment Committee of Aldersgate Church awarded twelve scholarships of $1,000 each for the upcoming academic year. The recipients are current college and graduate school students from the church.

Recipients and donors included (pictured left to right) Carl McNair, Haleigh Hopper, Claire Woods Penelope Norton, Amber Skinner-Richardson, Laura Derby, Sarah Atkinson, and Sam Schrage.
 
Also receiving scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year were Margarita Aleixo, Liam Armstrong, Caroline Austin, Emma Ekman, David King, Lily Vita, and Kate Woods. In addition, two $1,500 scholarships were provided to Wesley Theological Seminary.
