Responding to the Recent Shootings
Aldersgate family and beyond,
It is so disturbing how individuals devalue human life. Violence is causing us to live in a society of fear. Where do we go in public anymore that we are not vigilant? Interestingly, the scriptures tell us, “Hate what is evil; Cling to what is good.” (Romans 12:9)
As the church we can and should be in prayer for all the victims, their families and friends, those recovering, those preparing for funeral services, and so much more. We can also pray for legislators to do the hard work of forming some laws that can help prevent such unwarranted tragedies and loss of innocent life.
We will open our Prayer room and sanctuary to those who wish to come and light a candle and pray. We have Wesleyan Covenant Prayer bookmarks and copies of a Prayer of Lament available or you are welcome to pray whatever is on your heart. The Kingstowne Communion will also be hosting a prayer vigil Thursday evening from 8:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Kingstowne Town Center that we can be part of as well. Learn more on Facebook.
It’s time for the church to stand up and make an impact on our culture. We have a voice, we have a God who hears our prayers. Let’s stand together and be accounted for “doing good, doing no harm, and staying in love with God and God’s people.”
United in Purpose,
