May UMM Dinner on Flint Water Crisis

Christina Devine at work in the lab

The speaker at the United Methodist Men’s dinner on Tuesday, May 16, will be Christina Devine, who will provide a presentation on the Flint Water crisis from her work on a study team at Virginia Tech. Christina was confirmed at Aldersgate in 2006 and has participated in numerous mission activities. She received a BS and MS from Virginia Tech and is currently a PhD student there in Civil Engineering. The Flint Water problem has captured national interest and was initially brought to light by Flint residents. These residents contacted Virginia Tech, which launched a Study Team in August of that year. Christina, who was a member of the team, will provide an overview of its efforts to combine ethics engineering, citizen science, laboratory experiments, investigative science, and social media to confirm the high lead levels in Flint’s water.

The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and the cost is $7.00 per person.

You may make reservations for the dinner by signing up on the pew pads, at the table in Wesley Hall beginning April 30, or online.
