Every fall, the Aldersgate’s sixth-grade students gather for a year-long intensive confirmation study.
Beginning with Genesis and ending with Revelation, the goal is for the student at year’s end to be able to understand and affirm the Christian faith as it’s outlined in the Apostles’ Creed and the Baptismal Covenant. The class is confirmed during worship in June.
Class meets Sundays at 9:45am in room 202. Students should miss no more than 5 classes.
Parent and Student Reflection Questions
Although homework is not required for this class, we encourage parents to read and discuss the Parent and Student Reflection Questions each week. These questions will complement the previous Sunday text taught in class. Teachers will discuss the questions at the beginning of class and student participation is strongly advised. Reflection questions can be found here.
It is expected that the youth will worship 2 times per month at Aldersgate – a total of 18 services for the year. Any of the four weekend services are acceptable. Students can either serve as Acolytes at worship or they can observe a service and complete a Worship Experience outline guiding their reactions to the service. Outlines should be turned into leaders for credit and can be found here.
Students will begin the year with a lock-in at Aldersgate where students will get to know each other and continue building a faith based on scripture and fellowship.
To cap off our year together, each spring we take our students on an off-site weekend retreat. This event is mandatory for all students who wish to be confirmed. Details about the trip, including a packing list are available at the beginning of the fall.
