  • US Hurricane Response

MISSION INFORMATION < Previous Back to National & International Missions Next > US Hurricane Response Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton have devastated parts of the southeastern United States, bringing catastrophic wind, rain, and flash flooding to many states and communities. In response, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is coordinating with affected annual conferences and supporting their local relief efforts through the award of financial grants and the deployment of UMCOR-trained Early Response Teams (ERTs) who are coordinating efforts to support the removal of debris, tarping of roofs, and cleaning out of homes in hard-hit areas. The Virginia Annual Conference is supporting these efforts by putting together and sending UMCOR Cleaning (Flood) Buckets, including the 150 Flood Buckets put together by Aldersgate UMC and Woodlawn Faith UMC. To learn more about what the Virginia Annual Conference is doing and how you can help, visit https://vaumc.org/hurricaneresponse/ . • United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

MISSION INFORMATION < Previous Back to National & International Missions Next > United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) As the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) assists United Methodists and churches to become involved globally in direct ministry to persons in need. UMCOR comes alongside those who suffer from natural or human-caused disasters – famine, hurricane, war, flood, fire or other events – to alleviate suffering and serve as a source of help and hope for the vulnerable. UMCOR provides relief, response and long-term recovery grants when events overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on their own. UMCOR also provides technical support and training for partners to address emerging and ongoing issues related to disaster relief, recovery, and long-term health and development. UMCOR currently has response efforts in place to provide aid and assistance to the people of Ukraine; to alleviate suffering caused by hurricanes and other natural disasters within the United States and its territories; and to provide support to displaced persons as well as refugees fleeing disasters (both natural and human-caused) around the globe. Ways to Give: Visit https://umcmission.org/ways-to-give/ to learn about the many ways in which you can give to UMCOR. Here is some information on three primary ways in which you can give. • Aldersgate Day School

ALDERSGATE DAY SCHOOL The word ‘Aldersgate’ comes from a place where, nearly 300 years ago, a priest named John Wesley first felt his heart on fire with love of God and love for his neighbor. At Aldersgate Day School our goal is to offer the same opportunity to the children of our congregation and our community. Educating since 1962, Aldersgate Day School is a weekday, three-to-six-hour ministry for children 12 months old to Kindergarten. At Aldersgate Day School, your children are as important to us as they are to you; that’s why we provide a safe, loving, Christian environment for your children. Jesus said that for anyone to understand His Kingdom they will first have to become like little children. At Aldersgate Day School, we’re committed not only to teaching your children - we’re also committed to treating them as though we have something to learn from them. Our Day School Director, Beth Bachmore, begins her 3rd year at the helm of ADS. She has been an educator for 25 years and, as such, continues to be dedicated to providing students and their families a safe, educational, and loving environment at school. She, along with our talented team of teachers and staff, will guide your children in building their minds, building friendships & character, and enriching their faith.
